This blog is being regularly updated as new information comes out.

On December 4, 2024, an unknown man walked up to the CEO of United Healthcare, Brian Thompson, and killed him.

This murder has gotten a lot of attention because the victim was a CEO of a major insurance company, but also because of the public's gruesome, but perfectly rational response to the murder of a person who made $10 million dollars annually by turning healthcare into a game of saving money over lives.

We’ll look at the life of Brian Thompson, the death of the CEO, the time that led up to his murder, and the NYPD investigation to help you understand why this shocking event has captured the country’s intrigue.

Who Is UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson?

Brian Thompson was 50 years old and became the CEO of United Healthcare in April 2021. Brian had been with United Healthcare Group since 2004 and ran the government programs portion of the company before being promoted.

Last year he made $10.2 million in total compensation according to the most recent proxy statement. Meanwhile, the company was denying twice the number of claims as the industry average according to Health Leader Media.

His wife Paulette Thompson and their two sons are mourning his loss.

When Did The Shooting Take Place?

The United Healthcare CEO was shot at 6:44 am on December 4, 2024. Thompson was staying in New York Hilton Midtown across the street from where the annual shareholders meeting occurred. He had just walked across the street when the currently unknown shooter walked up and shot him.

What a way to start the day.

What Led Up To The Assassination?

Based on evidence it appears that the shooter has a reasonable motive for wanting Brian Thompson dead. While we don’t have enough information at this time we know that the killer wrote “Deny,” “Defend,” and “Oppose” on bullets near where he shot Mr. Thompson.

The following is a combination of supposition and news reports.

My Best Guess: One of the shooter’s loved ones was insured by United Healthcare, they denied their insurance claim, and the person died. The shooter believes that it is United Healthcare’s fault that their loved one died, then starts to form a plan.

He established when and where the company’s annual investor conference would be and then created a plan to  take a Greyhound up to Manhattan, scope out the territory, then plan his crime and escape route.

Documented: According to the Associated Press the shooter arrived at the Port Authority via a Greyhound bus on November 24 at 10:11 PM, which started in Atlanta and made six to seven stops along the way. My guess is he doesn’t live near any of the stops but traveled to the location to help confuse police.

Documented: About 45 minutes later he jumped in a taxi and went to HI New York City Hostel at 891 Amsterdam Ave.

Documented: Evidence suggests that the suspect checked in to the Manhattan hostel with a fake ID and made an effort to keep his face hidden, but a picture without his mask on was captured by a hostel security camera when the hostel employee asked to see his face to verify that it was the same person.

Documented: On November 29th, the unknown shooter forgot to check in to get his room, but checked back in the next day.

Suppositon: No information has been shared by the New York Police Department to help us understand what occurred between November 29th and the day of the fatal shooting. I suspect a law enforcement official knows, but is keeping it quiet for now to discourage some of you degenerates from messing with their ongoing investigation.

Documented: He leaves the hostel at 5:30 am on the day of the murder, stops and Starbucks to get a bottle of water and some energy bars. Then he goes to kill UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson at 6:44 am.

Documented: The killer entered Central Park four minutes later, discards his grey backpack, then heads to either New Jersey, Washington, Boston or Philadelphia.

What Evidence Has The New York Police Department Found?

So far the police have found evidence including the bullets, a bottle of water and wrapper which they can potentially pull DNA and got a partial fingerprint, his whereabouts before the shooting, his whereabouts before he left New York after the shooting.

In addition, they have found a backpack that was full of Monopoly money, which I can’t help think that it is a clever reference to the saying “people over profits.” That would be commentary on UnitedHeathcare CEO Brian Thompson choosing profits over people.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch believes he left from the George Washington Bridge Bus Station but the suspected gunman was not seen on security camera image boarding a bus.

New York City Police Department Is Investigating

This is an ongoing investigation with the New York City Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The NYPD have sent people down to Atlanta to investigate down there.

They are using surveillance footage to piece together as much of the time frames possible. The suspect appeared to be aware they would pull footage from surveillance cameras because he made it a point to cover his face and the shooter paid cash during the entire time he was in midtown Manhattan.

Why Did The Killer Shoot Brian Thompson?

Chief Of Detectives Joseph Kenny Told Reporters Friday:

“It could possibly be a disgruntled employee, or a disgruntled client.”

My bet based on the evidence surrounding the fatal shooting is that this targeted attack was the work of a customer whose loved one died.

Frankly, if that's the case I hope the suspected shooter never gets caught. The number of people murdered by insurance companies is far greater than the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

How Did The Killer Get Away?

The suspect fled the crime scene via bicycle and entered Central Park using the entrance at 60th Street and Center Drive. This is where he ditched the back pack.(I suspect he had stashed another one somewhere).

He continued his bike ride through Central Park and exited via the West 77th Street and Central Park West exit. Another surveillance video obtained by police captured the unidentified shooter continuing on bike at 85th Street and Columbus Avenue.

He ditched the bike a block later. When the next surveillance video caught him he was on foot. He hopped in a taxi towards the George Washington Bridge where surveillance video was not able to identify the bus he entered.

There’s A Reward For The Shooter’s Arrest

Both the FBI and the New York Police Department have offered rewards for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the gunman responsible for the targeted attack and assasination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

New York City is offering a $10,000 reward. You can call NYPD Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS or on their website.

In addition, the FBI is offering $50K to information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the Chief Executive officer.

Who Is The United Healthcare CEO Shooter?

The United Health Care shooter is currently suspected to be Luigi Mangione. He was eating in a McDonald's in Altoon, PA when one of the employees thought he looked like the gunman and called the police.

The local police department searched his bag and found a fake ID from New Jersey, a "Ghost gun," and a manifesto against the healthcare industry. He was arrested for the unlicensed firearm.

The New York police Department is running ballistics on the gun and testing for DNA to verify a match with existing evidence.

We’ll add more information about the person who committed the United Healthcare shooting when we have more information.

Luigi Mangione

Luigi Mangione is a 26 year old who graduated top of his class at Gilman School, a Maryland prep school. He was the oldest of six kids and a computer whiz. I'm sure as the investigation and the court case evolve we'll learn much more about him.

Closing

This story fascinates me because I find that the powerful use their positions to commit atrociously inhumane acts against those without power.

From the reported pedophile rings to Diddy parties, to the espionage using 9/11 as an excuse, law enforcement and their powerful friends have consistently upheld one standard for us and another for themselves.

The shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson has shocked the media and the wealthy because we’re sick and tired of their bullshit. While killing someone should always be the option of last resort, the Brian Thompson shooter likey had good reason to be pissed at UnitedHealthcare Inc.

Maybe they should look at what the government and corporations are doing to us. Otherwise the United Health shooter could be just the beginning of a festering class war.
