Where is Ed Gein’s house of horrors?
Ed Gein’s home location was at the corner of Archer and 2nd Avenue several miles southwest of Plainfield, WI. on the corner of Archer and 2nd Ave.
The house burned down in March of 1958 and all other buildings were destroyed by the new owner. All you’ll find is an empty lot with a gate blocking entry. It is private property so make sure to respect the owner’s rights.

The Gein Family In Plainfield
Ed Gein was eight years old when the Gein family sold their grocery store in 1914 to move to the isolated farm outside of Plainfield.
The family struggled to grow crops because of the sandy soil, which caused hardship in Ed’s life. The loneliness, isolation, and damning religious teaching of Augusta Gein all exacerbated an undiagnosed psychiatric issue that eventually led to horrifying acts.
This is the location where Ed Gein brought back his freshly dug grave robberies and murdered victims. He would then turn them into a ghastly collection of Ed Gein creations. Learn more about Ed Gein's crimes.
The Crime Scene At Ed Gein Property
The crime scene the Wisconsin State Crime Lab found on Ed Gein’s property was some of the most disturbing findings in a criminal investigation to this day. Ed Gein’s creations included the following items made from Ed’s victims:
A female “mammary suit”
Ed Gein’s nipple belt
Flesh lampshade
Human flesh masks
Human flesh upholstered chair
Salt-preserved painted vulvas
Skull bowls
They also found a cauldron of human remains. Despite this horrific collection, there were no noticeable burial sites from where Ed Gein disposed of victims bodies, but previously undiscovered human remains were found on the Gein property in 1960.
Ed Gein Farm Burnt Down
During March of 1958, The City of Plainfield intended to auction off the home and all of Gein’s possessions. A fire put a blazing stop to this. No investigation was conducted.
There were rumors that the property was going to be turned into a tourist attraction called The House of Horrors. Residents may not have liked the idea and decided to set it ablaze.
Who Owns Ed Gein’s Childhood Home?
The current owner of the property is hidden behind a paywall for the property searches in Waushara County. The Gein family home has changed hands several times since the auction in 1958.
The property was bought by Emden Schey at the 1958 auction. He removed the existing buildings, planted trees, and then sold the land except for where the primary homestead was. Upon Schey’s death, the property was passed to his grandson Mike Fisher.
Mike Fisher attempted to sell Ed Gein’s farm on eBay in 2006 using the headline “Ed Geins Farm…The REAL deal!” but eBay wanted nothing to do with it and removed the listing. Mike sold the property and the current owner allows film crews to use it occasionally when making documentaries about Ed Gein.
